ABOUT KLOCKRIKETEATERN
History
Nobel prize-winner Harry Martinson’s novel Vägen till Klockrike (The Road) directed and dramatized by Kristin Olsoni was the start for Klockriketeatern.
The theatre was founded (1994) on three basic ideas: to develop and deepen the actor’s expression, to create the best possible space for each text and to choose texts we find important in the moment without being trendy. Klockriketeatern has made itself known for a stylized and humoristic touch and a core of credibility in the actor’s expression.
During our existence we have created a continuous repertoire with ca two premières a year, often based on new Finnish or Scandivian drama. We organise lectures, debates and readings of new drama, serve poetical and musical performances within The Klockrike Soup Theatre concept. Networking, collaborations and international contacts are important to us, hence our engagement in several (Nordic) networks.
The theatre works almost entirely with freelancers, but many of them gladly return to us.
Actor and director Dan Henriksson is artistic director (general manager) since 2005.
Harry Martinson received the Nobel prize “for an authorship that catches the dewdrop and reflects cosmos” – not a bad motto for an artistic theatre in 2011.
Touring
Klockriketeatern is an independent touring theatre. Our home stage is Diana (black box with ca 100 seats), on Erottajankatu 7, in central Helsinki. We are open to international collaborations, co-productions and exchange of both performances, personel as well as ideas. Uncle Vanya is our main production right now and available for touring during 2012-13.
